Copyleft and the GPL: A Comprehensive Tutorial and Guide

Bradley M. Kuhn 40fa2e6685 Clarify who "most people" meant, drop UCITA ref.
The intent of this text was to point out that most users don't actually
believe they get warranties, which is still surely correct, given that
GPL disclaims warranties in the same manner nearly every software
license -- proprietary or free -- does anyway.

Also, the forward-reference to the later section's discussion of UCC
should be hinted at here. There is no explicit reference to UCC made
here, but it is encompassed in "many local laws", since the later
section mentions the specific section of UCC involved.

Meanwhile, the reference to UCITA is dropped, but perhaps it should be
reintroduced in other text in the main warranty section. UCITA has had
much less policy impact than was expected when the original version of
this text was written. It might be useful to ask policy folks and
attorneys from Maryland and Virginia who might be able to help explain
what impact UCITA has had being on the books only there.

Copyleft and GPL Tutorial Materials

This repository contains various tutorial materials regarding the suite of GNU General Public Licenses and copyleft (as applied to software).

The primary item of interest is an omnibus book on copyleft that is built from the comprehensive-GPL-guide.tex file.

You can build this project with the following command:

$ make

HTML output will be in the public_html directory and a PDF file will be in comprehensive-gpl-guide.pdf.

You may need to first install texlive, tex4ht and a few other things. On Debian-based systems, this command may work as root:

# aptitude install texlive-full make tex4ht

You may also browse the current version of the guide on copyleft.org, and download a PDF of the Guide as well.

Note the canonical repository for this project is on gitorious. Typically, copies of this repository on sites other than gitorious are for informational and backup purposes only.
